We’ll start our adventure at one of the world’s leading boutique hotel, the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. The discerning traveler, including royalty, statesmen, and Nobel prize-winners choose this tranquil and quiet retreat time and again as a place to call home in South Africa. For one night, you too can stroll the tree-lined avenues as Nelson Mandela did while writing his best-selling autobiography, A Long Walk to Freedom, and enjoy the personalized and unparalleled South African hospitality.
The next day, we will transfer to Jao Camp in Botswana. Set in the heart of the Okavango, Jao Camp embodies all the magic and mystique of the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta. The luxury camp is located on a remote island and surrounded by swathes of water and the view from the nine luxurious, private tents is magnificent. Within each individually handcrafted room, you will find a lounge, dressing area, en-suite facilities, indoor and outdoor shower, and a private sala, a sheltered open-air area perfect for an afternoon nap. The camp is even complete with a spa and a gym. Don’t get too comfortable though as there is an abundance of game to spot while at this camp. Water-loving red lechwe are in abundance, in turn attracting big predators such as lion and leopard. Expect to see other large game including tsessebe, giraffe, elephant, hippo and crocodile, with the occasional sitatunga, Africa’s only true amphibious antelope, and regular spotted-necked otter.
Named for Scandinavian royalty, our next camp, Kings Pool, is a luxurious and stylish venue overlooking the Kings Pool Lagoon and Linyanti River System in northern Botswana which epitomizes this beautiful region. Kings Pool Camp includes nine exquisite en-suite rooms of canvas and thatch which set the scenes for this authentic African setting. Whether curled up in the lounge with a good book, taking a dip in the plunge pool, exploring the terrain close-up on a guided walk, or participating in a game drive, you will be begging to extend your stay at the end of your visit. In addition to enjoying our plush accommodations and delicious meals, we may spot elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, spotted hyena, and the rare wild dog.
Our next stop is The Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe, nestled next to the famed Victoria Falls. You will step back in time at this grand old hotel situated perfectly in the fabulous Victoria Falls National Park. Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall in the world and is named Mosi-o-Tunya “The smoke that thunders” by local tribesWe will take a guided tour around the Falls, a memorable experience. Prepare to be awed by the Falls, hotel, and area.
Our last camp of the trip will be Londolozi Founders Camp in South Africa. Enchanting and intimate, Founders Camp is ideally situated to provide it’s guests with an insider’s view of the secrets of the river life in the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve situated next to Kruger National Park in northeastern South Africa. Considered to have the best leopard viewing in the world, Londolozi offers specialized photographic safaris and exclusive traversing rights in this concession. The camp has been described as “a touch of bush bohemia” with a young and vibrant energy suitable for modern day traveling families. We will bring a glorious finish to our Southern Africa safari with a stay in Cape Town, South Africa, at Ellerman House.
